Partner Resource Spotlight: Support After Rideshare Sexual Assault

At Silver Lake Counseling, our priority is your safety, dignity, and healing. We recently connected with Claire Willis at HelpingSurvivors.org to share a resource for people impacted by rideshare sexual assault. Their guide explains survivor rights, what legal options may exist, and how to find trauma-informed attorneys—so you don’t have to navigate this alone.

If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you need confidential emotional support, consider contacting a trusted support person or a crisis hotline.

What the Helping Survivors resource offers

  • Plain-language legal options. The guide explains when survivors may have a claim and outlines common forms of harm (e.g., unwanted touching, assault, stalking) without requiring you to retell every detail publicly. It emphasizes that speaking with an experienced attorney is the best way to understand your specific rights.

  • Company accountability & survivor rights. It discusses situations in which rideshare companies may be held liable and why survivors can seek accountability for unsafe conditions.

  • What a lawyer can do for you. From documenting evidence and filing in-app reports to handling communications and pursuing a civil claim, reputable firms provide free consultations and typically work on contingency (no fees unless you win).

  • Time limits matter. The article explains that statutes of limitations vary by state and why reaching out sooner preserves options.

Silver Lake Counseling is not a law firm and cannot give legal advice—we’re sharing this resource so survivors can access accurate information and trauma-informed legal referrals if they choose.

How therapy helps—at your pace

Whether the incident was recent or years ago, trauma can echo in the body and mind—through anxiety, sleep issues, hypervigilance, shame, or numbness. In counseling, we focus on:

  • Safety & stabilization (grounding, nervous-system regulation)

  • Choice & control (you decide what to share and when)

  • Evidence-based care (EMDR, CBT/DBT skills, mindfulness)

  • Compassionate, inclusive support for people of all identities and backgrounds

Healing is not linear. You are not to blame. You deserve support.

If this happened to you

  1. Prioritize safety. Get to a safe place and consider contacting someone you trust.

  2. Seek medical care if you want it (and consider evidence preservation if within your comfort).

  3. Document what you recall (screenshots, trip details, photos of injuries).

  4. Emotional support. You can see a therapist without reporting.

  5. Explore options. If you’re curious about your rights, the Helping Survivors resource can connect you to trauma-informed attorneys for a free consult.
