Creativity can offer a meaningful place to pause, express yourself, and connect with others during cancer treatment and recovery. The HeART of Healing is a free, 8-week in-person class at the Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute in Flint, Michigan, led by Teresa Fowler of Silver Lake Counseling.
Beginning September 22nd, participants will meet on Tuesdays from 11:00 AM–12:00 PM for restorative, creative activities in a compassionate and supportive group setting.
Creativity, Connection & Support
Cancer can affect much more than physical health. Treatment and recovery can bring stress, uncertainty, fear, sadness, and many other emotions. Creative activities can provide a gentle way to slow down, focus on the present, and give those feelings somewhere to go.
The HeART of Healing provides an opportunity to:
Explore creative and artistic activities
Relax and enjoy restorative time for yourself
Express emotions in a different way
Connect with others affected by cancer
Practice mindfulness and being present
Enjoy creativity without pressure or expectations
You do not need any art experience to participate. There is no perfect project to create and no artistic skill required. The focus is on the experience, not the finished product.
All art supplies are provided.
A Supportive Space During Cancer Treatment & Recovery
One of the most valuable parts of The HeART of Healing is simply being around others who understand that a cancer journey can be complicated.
Whether you're currently undergoing cancer treatment or navigating recovery, this class offers a welcoming space to create, connect, and take a little time for yourself.
Teresa Fowler of Silver Lake Counseling in Fenton, MI will lead the class, bringing her experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and cancer survivor to this supportive program.
